My First Two Months…

The first thing I’d like to say is that I’m really enjoying my time at Mint.
My manager and Team Leader, Adam Robson, has been fantastic and the rest of the Underwriting team have really taken me under their wing. Nothing is too much trouble.

My week-long induction was incredibly thorough and involved me learning much about the roles and responsibilities of all departments, including our Portfolio Management team. This is the first time I’ve been exposed to and worked alongside a team of this nature, and it’s clear their extensive experience and honest approach contributes significantly to the extremely high rate of successful loan redemptions at Mint.

From the start of my second week, I was assisting with ongoing enquiries. This quickly moved on to tackling enquiries single-handedly following an in-depth briefing from Adam, and I’ve recently expanded my growing remit to include the progression of enquiries from our Sales team.

Over the course of the first month, seeing the care and attention that is taken to understand the needs of each Borrower such that every deal is structured perfectly to deliver against their requirements was really enlightening.

Month two has seen me increasingly exposed to how the whole team consider rates, LTVs, valuation methodology and security on an ongoing basis to maintain our competitive edge, all of which has been hugely helpful in further expanding my knowledge.

Another thing I really enjoy at Mint is the opportunity to build relationships with Brokers, Borrowers and solicitors. There’s a real sense of shared endeavour as the full team pull together to answer the questions we collectively pose, with a view to undertaking a thorough ‘Mint-style’ underwrite as we progress an enquiry to completion. I particularly enjoy the increased level of understanding I get with the responses to each and every round of questions.

Despite the fact I’m a Bridging Underwriter, I’ve been able to increase my knowledge of how the underwriting process adapts for Development loans. Whether this is something I choose to learn even more about in the future I’m unsure right now, but I know Mint will support me in this if it’s something I want to do.

So it’s been a fantastic first two months, and I know there are many more to come! I actually completed my first deal in less than four weeks, something I’m really proud of, and I’d like to say a big thank you to Adam, the Underwriting team and the whole Mint business for making me feel so welcome. I look forward to building deeper relationships with Brokers and Borrowers in the future, and to further expanding my knowledge in this fantastic industry.
