Mint Property Finance Welcomes Two New Underwriters To The Family

Hina Shakir and Rubie Downes this week join the Underwriting team of specialist property finance lender, Mint, to progress the growing volume and value of enquiries, applications and completions.

After three years as an Underwriter at Islamic finance provider, Gatehouse Bank, overseeing a mix of first charge, purchase, refinance and BTL transactions for a UK resident, Ex-Pat and international clientele, it was the promise of a fast-paced working environment and strong sense of family values that most appealed about Mint to Hina.

Speaking on her appointment, Hina commented: “The individuals that I met through the recruitment process all talked about a ‘close knit’ team, and I’ve not been disappointed. Everyone is incredibly approachable, keen to share their extensive knowledge, and just good fun.”

Prior to her role at Islamic Bank, Hina also spent a combined six years at Ascot Bridging Finance and Together Finance following the completion of a business degree at Manchester Metropolitan University, meaning Hina’s bridging and development experience will be a welcome addition to the Underwriting team.

Also commencing the next stage of her career at Mint Property Finance is Junior Underwriter, Rubie Downes.

Rubie joins the business following three years as Case Manager at Edward Mellor Financial Services and the same period at O’Neill Patient Solicitors as Conveyancing & Remortgage Case Progressor. It was in both of these roles that Rubie not only learnt the importance of analytical thinking, attention to detail and having the necessary tenacity to progress an application through the process to completion at pace, but her appetite to work on an ever-broader range of projects was awakened.

Speaking on her appointment, Rubie commented: “Having honed my skills in previous roles, I’ve turned to Mint to broaden my experience across a variety of different cases. Working in Mint’s Underwriting team, I already know that every case is unique and there is a real requirement for the team to work collaboratively both internally and with the borrower and broker or professional introducer.”

Both new joiners have benefited from a rigorous induction process involving training across every function within the business, an ongoing weekly training programme and a personalised development plan that will roll out over the coming 12 months.

Speaking on their appointment, Karen Shepherd, Head of Operations, commented: “We always enjoy bringing bright, young talent into Mint Property Finance, and with these two we’ve hit the jackpot. Both arrive with the perfect balance of significant, directly relevant experience and an appetite to learn, so we’ve immediately capitalised on this enthusiasm and had them working closely alongside their respective managers from the get-go. We look forward to seeing them thrive in our family values environment and making a positive impact on the buying experience of borrowers, brokers and professional introducers alike.
